candy

i love halloween, but i have to say i don't love the candy. up until this year, our kids have been little enough to pretty much forget about candy or treats (for halloween, easter, christmas, etc) after a day or two. but not this year. not otto. he asks for candy pretty much first thing in the morning. i mean, look at his face in the picture. he was on a sugar high just thinking about all the candy.

took about a million pics of our trick or treaters this year. not sure this is the best one, but i wanted to get one on here. otto the monkey (remember greta the monkey), selma the ladybug and greta the princess. happy halloween!
the kids had a great time trick or treating and they loved passing out candy too! they sure took that job seriously!

carving pumpkins is always a big event around here. we waited til the last minute this year and ending up carving just before we went trick or treating. otto was big on supervising, as well as trying to grab the knives and permanent markers at every chance.

behind the scenes

this is how much fun it was to take the pictures of the kids in their costumes at the burkholders. can you see how hard we (especially scott, meg, and i) are laughing?! it was that hilarious. this picture makes me smile almost as much as the ones of our kiddos. and it also makes me feel very grateful that we (and our kids) have such great friends to share these moments with.

pictured: greta (the green light "GO"), owen (the pirate), gavin (the dog), addie (elmo), caroline (the cat...see how she's crawling like a cat!), otto (the stop sign), and trevor (the doggy's bone).

twas the night before halloween.....
and our friends the burkholders invited us over for a halloween get-together. i have to say, it was the most fun i've had in a long while. it was so cute to see all the kids in their costumes. the food was delicious. and the company was by far the best part. the "bigger" kids played in the basement almost the entire time, which was a fun change for all of us i think. thanks so much holly and jesse for hosting us....we all had a really fun time!

halloween 2009

halloween was so much fun! i would have to say that this was probably my favorite halloween to date, even better than BEING a kid on halloween is having kids to celebrate halloween with! greta LOVED it!! she and joe trick or treated for two blocks up and down our street while otto and i stayed home and passed out candy. she was thrilled at all of the candy she was given, and she was really checking out all the other costumes. when she woke up this morning, she asked to go trick or treating again. and otto's banana costume was a hit. click on the picture above (and then click on 'slideshow') to see all our pictures from the evening.

trial run

greta is pretty excited about halloween, despite her facial expression in this photo. she has been wearing her monkey costume around the house, and she knows to say trick or treat and "thank you for the candy". we haven't tried on otto's banana costume yet, but i know it's gonna be hilarious. HILARIOUS.

falloween

after the morning fun at sawyer point and only a 20 minute nap for greta, we headed to coney island for their 'falloween' extravaganza. it was tons of fun. we met up with grandma and grandpa hansbauer, and the ford cousins. there were tons of fun activities....greta painted her own pumpkin, rode rides, trick or treated, made an apple pie, and, most importantly, played in a giant patch of gravel. greta's favorite part of the evening was probably either the gravel or riding the tilt a whirl with papa and jacob. she LOVED it, and was laughing hysterically the whole time while mama waited nervously. otto had a great time too. his favorite part of the event was playing with the zipper on his bundle me. what a fun fall evening!

costume(s)....and she also says to keep your paws off her giant bowl of dum-dums. no worries, friends. she only had one.

happy halloween part 2

halloween is a big event in our neighborhood. we probably get about 250 trick or treaters, and all night long cars roll up and kids pile out to hit all of our houses. maybe it's because there's good candy to be had. maybe because our houses are so close together. who knows. either way, you can't miss out. greta was determined to get in on the action, just like she did last year. we dressed her up in her lederhosen and went over to our neighbors' house. emily and patrick have a little boy, tom, who is just a few weeks younger than greta. we ordered pizza, passed out candy, and hung out while greta and tom motored around the front yard. it was a fun night. and greta looking so cute and so german in her costume made it even more fun. she even left her alpine hat on long enough for pictures, and she kept her pigtails in all night!!

happy halloween!

greta was a skeleton during the day on halloween. we taught her

how to say, "boo!" (which comes out sounding like "bbbhhh") and went over to the nawroth's to give ella a scare.

Halloween

I am pretty sure it'll be a couple more years until Greta really enjoys Halloween, but she spent the evening helping us pass out candy... and the neighbors two doors down stopped by to meet her as well. They went in this morning at 5 AM to Good Sam to be induced, so pretty soon Greta will have a playmate just a couple doors away...

We tried to keep her out of the candy, but she couldn't be stopped:

Remember that shower that Meg and Megan threw that people decorated the onsie's? Well it was time for another 'first' onsie, this one for Halloween and made by the ever creative Stacy:
